J. Jonah Jameson hires Peter to be Ben's personal assistant.

Ben Urich during his time became an experienced and respected reporter of the Daily Bugle, and amassed a network of informants under the alias of The Spider. From this he amassed a wealth of evidence against various corrupted politicians and notable figures in New York City, in particular The Goblin which he uses as blackmail in order to get enough money to feed his secret drug habit. Spider-Man breaks into Norman's office and sees Ben and in his anger lashed out saying Norman has bought and paid for him, it is then Ben realizes that he must show the corruption Norman has caused and so returns home and rings the Daily Bugle to tell J. Jonah Jameson he is giving him all the information he has to bring Norman down.

Ben is killed by Chameleon who poses as Jameson but the information he was going to give the Jameson imposter is long gone as he luckily gave it to Felicia Hardy first.
